SUNSHINE PIPE DREAM

SUNSHINE COAST - Though the biggest chanukiah in the world resides in Jerusalem, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Brian Rasmussen built a 1.5-metre candelabra on the Sunshine Coast in just one day.Rasmussen, a goat farmer, produced his artwork out of piping. It was lit at the Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia (RARA) and Sunshine Coast Jewish Community celebration at a private home in Maroochydore last Sunday. -NICOLE BRESKIN

Chanukah miracle for Shoalhaven Jews

THE miracle of Chanukah was not just the oil lasting for eight days and nights at least not for the small Jew-ish community of Shoalhaven, on the south coast of NSW.

Just a day before the first night of the festival, Chanukah candles along with other festival items still had not made it from Melbourne to Deanne Rosenthal's home.

Rosenthal had organised a Chanukah celebration to take place the next day only the second of its kind in Worrigee.

The package containing the Chanukah items was sent from Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia in Melbourne, but never made it to Rosenthal, who blamed the "let down" on Australia Post.
