ANOTHER SIMCHA IN THE TROPICS CAIRNS — Following on from Townsville's recent brit milah, Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia (RARA) organised a pidyon haben (redemption of the first born) in Far North Queens-land for little Egoz Shtevi.
A small group of Jewish men and women joined Avi and Mali Shtevi in Cairns, together with a local kohen, to celebrate the occasion.The baby's grandfather, a cantor who was visiting from
Israel, entertained the small group with traditional songs. According to Rabbi Dov Oliver from Chabad RARA this event was almost certainly the first of its kind in the region.
