TWO American rabbis visited Deniliquin this week as part of Chabad of RARA (Rural and Regional Australia). The young rabbis are driving around Australia in a 'Mitzvah Tank' caravan, finding Jewish people and reconnecting them with their heritage.

On Tuesday, the pair agreed they liked Deniliquin but said it was "very cold".

Chabad of RARA was established in 2000 as a non-profit organisation to care for the spiritual and general needs of Jewish men, women and children outside the main cities of Australia.

Chabad Lubavitch is a 200 year-old Chassidic movement originating in the Russian city of Lubavitch. Under the leadership of Rabbi Menachem M Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the movement has become the largest Jewish outreach or-ganisation in the world devoted to improving the spiritual and material conditions of Jews wherever they are.

Main centres in Australia are located in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.

Over 30 years ago three young rabbis drove around Australia in the Mitzvah Tank.

The trip laid the foundation of Chabad of RARA.

One of the cardinal tenants of Judaism is that all Jews are united, regardless of physical distance.

All Jews, irrespective of their background, standard of observance or location, have the right to know more about their unique heritage.

It is therefore the pur-pose of Chabad of RARA to bring knowledge of that heritage within reach and help rural Australians re-claim their birthright by providing information and services.

The rabbis will contin-ue their tour around regional centres for a couple of months. Anyone who would like to contact them should phone 0425 788 870.
