Rabbi Dov, of the Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia, with his wife Shevy and daughter Hadassa, will be celebrating the Jew-ish festival of Shavuot in Coffs Harbour. Rabbi Dov" is holding the Torah that will be read at today's service.

SHAVUOT, the Jewish festival of the giving of the Torah, will be celebrated today at the Coffs Harbour Surf Club, Ocean Parade.

Rabbi Dov, from the Cha-bad of Rural and Regional Australia, invites the local Jewish community to the ser-vice which will commence at noon and include a reading  from the Torah to be followed by Shabbat lunch.

"Coming together and celebrating festivals is a wonderful opportunity for regional Jewish communities to unite," said Rabbi Dov.

On the first day of Shavuot the Ten Commandments are read and on the second day memorial prayers are said for departed family members.

It is also customary to eat dairy foods and to decorate the home with flowers and greenery on this festival.
