TWO young American rabbis have arrived on the Border to give regional and rural Australians the chance to learn about Judaism.

Mendel Grossbaum and Chaim Telsner arrived in Melbourne last Tuesday from the US where they are based in New York and have begun an eight-week journey where they hope to share their wisdom and knowledge with anyone who may be interested.

The seeds of their journey grew from a similar trip 30 years ago, when three young rabbis drove around Australia in a "Mitzvah Tank" caravan, finding Jewish people, and reconnecting them with their heritage.

That trip laid the foundation for the Chabad of RARA, established in July, 2000, as a non-profit organisation to care for the spiritual and general needs of Jewish men, women, and children outside the main cities.

RARA refers to rural and re-gional Australia and the duo will be very recognisable as they visit regional centres in their brightly decorated caravan.

As well as touring the country, they will both be living, sleeping and eating in the caravan, which comes complete with a kosher kitchen.

They are on the Border all this week and are hosting a Shahbat dinner and lunch on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at 534 Young Street, Albury. The dinner starts at 6pm and the lunch at 1pm and anyone can attend.

For more information, log on to www.chabadofrara.org or contact the rabbis by phoning 0425 788 870.
